Our
Mission
The mission of the Deaf Academics organization is to foster interaction
between Deaf and hard-of-hearing people in academic or research careers.
In this way, we hope to encourage the professional development of our
members.
Who are we?
Deaf academics are Deaf/deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals who
are scientists, researchers, instructors, professors, or lecturers within
an university or laboratory setting. We also welcome graduate
students and other individuals in training. We are an international
community, and our members represent a diverse range of fields of study.
What does the organization do?
We maintain this web site and a listserv, which are important tools
for us to meet one another, correspond, and forge collaborations.
The web site is continually updated with announcements that are relevant
to our community. We have hosted three international conferences: Austin, Texas USA in 2002, Washington, D.C. USA in 2004 and Stockholm, Sweden in 2006. A fourth conference
is currently being planned
for Dublin, Ireland in 2008
